Tiffany Trump tagged along with her father and stepmother, Donald and Melania Trump, for the U.K. visit last week. The 31-year-old new mom was spotted at the official banquet with a very royal look that might have been inspired by Kate Middleton.

The president’s youngest daughter chose a regal color that is often worn by the Princess of Wales: royal blue. Kate, Prince William, and their three children often coordinate their outfits with a variety of blue shades to convey family unity. The royal family loves to send messages via their wardrobe, especially when they can’t publicly comment on a controversy.

“The royal family is always very aware of the message their clothing sends. A huge part of their very public role is to be seen—as Queen Elizabeth II famously said,” Elizabeth Holmes, author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style, told Vogue in September 2023. “Before anyone knows what work they are doing, what cause they are supporting, or what event they are attending, we see what they are wearing. They know that and they use that quite savvily.”

Tiffany’s gown was described by Hello! Magazine as a “Princess Kate style” dress, which they feel was “heavily influenced” by the royal family member’s style. Whether the president’s daughter chose the royal-blue color in honor of Kate or not, it does subtly show how the Princess of Wales impacts fashion — the “Kate Middleton effect” is real.

When Kate wore designer Jennifer Chamandi’s pumps in 2021 to a royal appearance, the sales were “instantaneous,” according to Harper’s Bazaar. “We had messages from stockists globally, wanting to know how quickly we could deliver a shipment of the style Kate wore,” Chamandi told the fashion outlet in May 2023. “Being a British brand, having a member of the royal family wear my shoes was a dream come true. After another intense lockdown, it felt like a ray of optimism.”

Tiffany shared her banquet night snapshots with her Instagram followers on Sept. 20 with a variety of poses because she felt like a princess.

She wrote, “It was an honor to attend the State Banquet at Windsor Castle 🇺🇸🇬🇧 My deepest thanks to Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, and to Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales, for such a memorable evening.”
