Trump imposes $100,000 requirement on H-1B workers, restricting entry for Indian professionals

It’s the latest effort by the Trump administration to curb or raise more money from legal immigration. Companies will now have to pay an annual $100,000 fee on H1B visa applications, a move that deals a major blow to the US tech industry, which relies heavily on workers from India and China. It is a loss for America, not India. Those who go abroad and can’t pay that much money for the visa will open their offices here. and when they work in India which is already making economic progress it will contribute to that. So I think this hike is beneficial for us. The Indian government says the plan is likely to have humanitarian consequences particularly the disruption caused to families. President Donald Trump’s threat to crack down on H1B visas has become a major flash point with the tech industry which relies on H1B visa holders more than any other sector of the US economy. Supporters of the program, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, say it brings in highly skilled workers essential to filling in talent gaps and keeping firms competitive. The Trump administration, on the other hand, says hiking the fee will mean more opportunities for American workers. The country would rather not have to pay $100,000, but uh and they’d rather How do you do that? You hire American. So there’s an incentive to hire an American, but there may be instances where it’s better off doing through expertise or whatever it may be. The new fear is going into effect Sunday. It will not be applied to existing holders of valid visas re-entering the country.

US President Donald Trump has signed a proclamation requiring H-1B workers in specialty occupations to pay $100,000, restricting entry for Indian professionals and others in the US. Jennie Shin reports.

  1. Best opportunity to indias to get back home and focus their so called "superpower " economy and technology land focus on that.

  2. The US and the West will slowly block all these mass visa abuses to preserve their collapsing economies. Unfortunately, India is far behind in the race and too heavy population, social and wealth gap to catch up. These techs have reached their limits and will only have reverse effects. It's nothing shock, it's just natural in the making for years.

  3. Should be at least 200k. If an Indian woman gets pregnant, her visa should be suspended, and she should be automatically deported. No more anchor babies.

  4. It's not restriction it's competition: It appears that China may encourage more of its new graduates to pursue opportunities in the United States, especially if the Chinese government supports them by subsidizing companies engaged in IT hardware, software development, and environmentally friendly rare earth processing within the U.S. Such a strategy could expand China’s share of H-1B visas, which are currently dominated by Indian nationals at about 71%. With its vast U.S. dollar reserves, China could effectively export some of its youth unemployment to the U.S. by promoting foreign companies that not only provide talented workers but also create investments to absorb them. This would heighten competition among the top 10 H-1B labor-exporting countries, while aligning with the original intent of the H-1B program—to bring skilled labor into the U.S. through corresponding industry investment. If implemented, this policy could be seen as a strategic move to restore high-quality labor contributions within the United States. Peace.

  5. They keep harping on training Americans after university 😂😂 as an excuse.. they are scared of competing against global talent.. and when they can’t they called skilled workers cheap workers 😂😂 to train you need to be 1/ trainable 2/ willing to work 3/ have the mind to apply the training !

  6. America has plenty of qualified workers. Companies want to bring foreign workers, and pay them less, much less.

  7. $100,000 applies to Indian H1B workers (Indian passport holders) only. This helps China, Canada, and other H1B source countries. This new fee does not guarantee jobs for Americans. Indian H1Bs will simply be replaced by Chinese, Canadian, European H1Bs, as those countries are exempt from the $100,000 fee.

  8. This will not help. They need to put specific ban on indians then it will work. Otherwise the indian CEOs will pay those extra money to still hire indians then US citizens. And indians don't have enough jobs so India will lose out

  9. Without US and EU businesses and companies, India has no demand and no economy. So just ban all indian goods and services and see how Indian economy becomes like north Korea. All those talent will suddenly mean nothing

  10. Without US and EU businesses and companies, India has no demand and no economy. So just ban all indian goods and services and see how Indian economy becomes like north Korea. All those talent will suddenly mean nothing

  11. The indian CEOs hire 70% workers from India and those indians cheat and give 20% of their salary to other India s back in India to do the job cause they got the job cheating.

  12. My question is how this affects call centers. No offense, but more than half the time you need to call customer support for something, it ends up being an Indian on the other line. You can tell because of their heavily accented and sometimes difficult to understand English.

  13. U.S companies will just outsource directly to India instead of bringing Indian workers to the U.S. Trump just do not know how these companies work lol.

  14. The Department of Education was founded in 1979 now compair the curriculum between pubilc and private schools – manufacuring mangaer class and working class. And those brought in with H1B are slave to the contract class.
