A World War II veteran in Minnesota is celebrating his 105th birthday on Monday. He is believed to be the oldest living WWII veteran in the state.

A World War II veteran in Minnesota is celebrating his 105th birthday on Monday. He is believed to be the oldest living WWII veteran in the state.

Stan Nelson is getting well-wishes from Minnesota all the way to the nation’s capital.

Even Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave Nelson a birthday salute, which you can watch in the video player above.

Nelson was in the Navy during D-Day, the June 6, 1944, landing on a beach in Normandy, France. He told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he’s grateful he had the chance to serve his country.

“I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” he said, later adding, “I’m just lucky to have such good friends and family. It isn’t everybody that can say that, ya know. And so for that, I’m very thankful.”
