For quite some time, Belgium stood on the "opposes" side on the Chat Control proposal to read all private messages by October. Today it switched to "undecided". For what reason is that?

  1. It mentions the Danish compromise, so that’s why probably

  2. Click the Timeline button and it’ll tell you.

  3. Honestly, this is not nearly getting the attention it should. People don’t seem to realize the risk that this legislation poses.

And the criminals they’re targetting? They’ll just move to other systems (e.g. TOR) within the year and only the dumb ones will get caught.

  5. Political logic.

    A large pot of soup.

A turd in the pot of soup? UNACCEPTABLE!

Half a turd in the pot of soup! COMPROMISE!

  6. I wrote my local Member of the European Parliament Pascal Arimont two times and I did not get a response unfortunatey. I brought up arguments why Chat Control is a bad idea and I asked what his stance is. I’ll probably try a third time. His E-Mail is: [pascal.arimont@europarl.europa.eu](mailto:pascal.arimont@europarl.europa.eu)

  7. What is insane is that companies and regular people have to conform to GDPR.

You have a personal website and want to collect IP addresses to know where are the people that read your blog from? PII, you cannot without asking consent, include retention rules, etc.

Here the state wants to see _all your personal data that goes through your chat app_ and bam this is fine? This is more than a slippery slope, it’s an authoritarian turn. With the state, it is always double standard, it is unacceptable. Time for a new era of true liberalism, not that weird dystopian orwellian nightmare we have.

  8. Maybe it’s really time to get a protest started in Brussels as contacting our MEPs doesn’t seem to be effective enough. We still have a little more than 3 weeks to organize such a crucial protest. So, if anyone is interested in actually fighting this, let’s work together so we can **Stop The Digital Panopticon!**

  9. How the heck hasn’t there been some kind of docu or debate on this in national tv
