Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Tuesday confirmed the state cabinet will vote next week to dedicate land near Miami’s Freedom Tower for the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library.

Uthmeier described the site as “a symbol of freedom” and “a beacon of liberty” for Florida, as well as the entire nation.

I’ll be voting yes!,” he wrote on X.

Pending approval from the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, the Presidential Library would be built on 2.63 acres of state-owned land, which is adjacent to the Freedom Tower in downtown Miami-Dade County. The Miami Dade College board approved transferring the land to the state.

Uthmeier’s social media post included a video of him walking at the site, describing it as the “Ellis Island of the South.” He said Cuban families arrived there during the 1950s to escape “the terrors of Communism.”

Uthmeier also explained why he thinks it is the best location for the project, noting that Trump’s “story” is one of strength, redemption, victory, and sacrifice for U.S. citizens.

Surviving two assassination attempts, securing the border, and rebuilding our nation’s military are just a few stories this great library will tell,” Uthmeier noted, adding that Trump endured “shammed” impeachments, witch hunts. Each time, he rose stronger, proving that courage, strength, resilience, and faith in the American people will always prevail,” Uthmeier added. “Thanks to President Trump, America’s enemies now know that we are back. Florida will blessed to house the Presidential Library for one of our very own state presidents and to be a part of such meaningful history.

Uthmeier went on to thank Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and MDC President Madeline Pumariega for their leadership.

In a news release, DeSantis said Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on the nation’s history.

“No state has better delivered the President’s agenda than the Free State of Florida, and we would be honored to house his presidential library here in his home state,” DeSantis said.

If approved by the Board, the governor added, the site would provide additional economic development opportunities across South Florida.

According to the release, the land is currently used as an employee parking lot for Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson Campus.

The vote is set for September 30.
