    It’s a fucking ***escalator***. Calm down. It probably was intentional as a response to his funding cuts, but this is *clearly* in the category of “practical joke”, not ***sabotage***, lmao.

  18. Engineer here, and this is all speculative but – given the age of the UN, when these escalators were installed, and given how little we spend on maintenance and upgrades in our country, I doubt these escalators had any remote control.

    If anything, since the escalator was running without a load on the motor for a while, then when Melania and Trump stepped on, the old AC motor could have struggled from the load and blew a fuse or cut a relay somewhere.

    If I’m wrong and they did upgrade to a building automation/controller the timing is at most too perfect for someone to be reviewing live CCTV footage and at the same time, operate a building controller interface to trigger just one escalator to turn off.

    Normally automated devices are grouped together… such as all escalators on floor 1, or west side building floor 1 escalators, all lights on floor 5 etc… targeting an individual unit takes extra time and would have to be done by someone with full access to both the CCVT and the building automation controller. Often permissions to individually control devices are only granted to the installers of that building automation system. Often leaving groups of options for end users, like simply to turn off groups of devices.

    If all the escalators near trump shut off at the same time, I could see this as “sabotage” as great leader indicates, but this truly looked like a mechanical failure as I’ve seen escalators fail the same way before with my own eyes.

    Also question, during the UN speech, Trump indicated that other countries buildings suck and he once got stuck on an escalator… Umm did the speech occur before or after this escalator incident? If after, and if proven this is a mechanical failure, damn irony is getting wild in 2025 as of late.
