UNGA

UN GATE /
SDNY, Sept
24
– With the UN General Assembly
week approaching, Inner City
Press which closely covers the
UN on September 12 wrote to
the UN Mission of Latvia,
which is set for a UNSC seat
in 2026-27:

Dear

Permanent Representative Pavļuta-Deslandes:

I am writing to you as Permanent
Representative to the United Nations, more
than two weeks before the UN General Assembly
High Level Week, formally requesting that your
Mission act to ensure Press access to enter
the UN and cover this UNGA
session.      I am a
journalist who covers the UN – and its General
Assembly – closely. I also covered
international affairs beyond the UN, as simply
one example earlier this month see reporting
of my questioning of the IMF at one of its
briefings I routinely am allowed to enter and
cover, “Sept 1, 2025, Decrypt, “El Salvador Is
Splitting Up Its Bitcoin,” by Mat Di Salvo,
“In late July, an IMF spokesperson told Inner
City Press that El Salvador was not, in fact,
purchasing Bitcoin on a weekly basis but was
instead simply moving funds around from
internal wallets”

By contrast, and in a lawless inconsistency of
the UN and UNGA that I am hereby asking you to
reverse, I and Inner City Press are not
allowed into the UN, without reason given. To
cover the upcoming General Assembly, on June
19, 2025 I wrote to Under Secretary General
Melissa Fleming and MALU’s Tal Mekel, as
summarized below.    More than
two months later, they have not answered. This
is unacceptable for the UN and I ask you and
your Mission to ensure that Inner City Press
gets a response and is allowed in

  More than
10 days later, nothing from
Latvia’s Mission to the UN,
even as President Edgars
Rinkēvičs bloviated about UN80
– which as staff
whistleblowers have revealed
through Inner City Press
largely feathers fat-cats’
nests – and the rule of law.
And what about UN censorship?
Will incoming UNSC member
Latvia at least ensure due
process for the Press? We’ll
have more, much more, on this.
