I wonder what the opinion of the average citizen is on this.

My 2 cents: I've seen my youngest kid being harassed and assaulted in school because of a bunch of violent uneducated kids that terrorize her year from the 1st up until now the 4th year of primary school.

Every child has the right for education but if it negatively impacts other kids heavily we should be able to say that they are not welcome, but offer them an other solution (school for kids that have educational needs?)

  1. I’d deem it fair. Why should others have a negative impact on their education because of their own wrongdoing as if they are the victim?

  2. Die kinderen (en eigenlijk ook de ouders) hebben zorg nodig. Enerzijds zijn er altijd te weinig mogelijkheden en plaatsen. Ten tweede faalt ons detectiesysteem om zo’n situaties vroeg genoeg te ondersteunen. En als laatste ontbreekt op dit moment enige vorm van urgentie of politieke wil om hier iets mee te doen, deels omdat het electoraal niet bevorderend is daar het vaak over kinderen gaat met een migratie- achtergrond. Daar ‘scoor’ je op dit moment geen stemmen mee.

  4. Als je van regulier onderwijs op vlak van gedrag de laatste kans maakt dan krijg je wantoestanden.

    1 leerling kan een hele klascultuur van 20+ om zeep helpen.

    Tragisch dat sommige kinderen nergens terecht kunnen. Dat is een systeemfalen, maar deze kinderen bestaan op een school niet in een vacuum.

    Ook, in de praktijk gaat verbieden van def uitsluiting gwn zorgen voor aaneenschakelen van tijdelijke uitsluitingen en dan start 2de graad toch def. Is dat beter?

    EDIT: Toevoeging: er zijn ook gewoon scholen die nogal gretig def uitsluiten, natuurlijk. 10 procent zoals ergens in het artikel vermeld wordt is absurd. Vaak gebeurt dit ook net na de telling van leerlingen voor het toewijzen van uren voor het volgende jaar.

  7. Kinderen die gekend zijn om anderen te pesten/vernederen even in het bijzonder onderwijs steken met medeleerlingen die nog “zwakker” zijn. OP heeft lang nagedacht over dit idee.

  8. My mother teaches in a school in sint-niklaas. Kids threaten other kids and teachers there and nothing is done really. Some kids are just completely lost and will never be productive members of society, all they do is be difficult for everyone else.

    She says it’s partly because more and more parents are disinterested in their kids.

  9. Als 1 kind de rest van de klas terroriseert moeten zijn klasgenoten hier toch niet de gevolgen van dragen? Wat een achterwaartse statement…

    Ga dat zoeken bij de ouders.

    My 2 cents: *”Joppe en Evrim moeten maar hun manieren houden, en Jolien en Sander resp Mehmet en Fatma moeten hen dat maar leren. Zolang mijn schatjes Frederik en Manon en ikzelf maar gerust gelaten worden”* is a very human way to react, but it doesn’t solve jack. Joppe and Evrim are not going to go up in thin air. Excluding them instead of remediating their behavior at the root is simply putting the problem on someone else’s plate, creates segregation in schools and won’t stop the next Joppe and Evrim being created.

  11. Lol. Mensen beseffen niet in welke mate sommige kinderen verneukt worden door hun ouders en de straat, en dus onhandelbaar zijn. Niet hun fout, maar die doen hele klassen ontsporen. Andere kinderen en de leerkracht daarvoor laten opdraaien maakt het heus niet beter…

  12. I was bullied from elementary school all the way to to the 2nd year of high school. I believe I still carry the consequences of that.

    At the same time I also understand my bullies were also children. Should they have known better? Maybe, but I do understand that most children are literally incapable of comprehending the full extent of consequences of their actions; that is simply how brains develop.

    That doesn’t mean we should just tolerate disruptive behavior and bullying. But at the same time “Let’s just give up on these kids and ruin their future because they can’t behave right now” is also a very simplistic way of looking at things.
    If you think that isn’t going to lead to major issues later down the line then we’re fortunate that you’re not in charge of these kinds of decisions.

  13. I don’t think they exclude you for something as simple as a one time bully. I can’t remember anyone being expelled in our school, let alone outright excluded, and while we had a no-bully policy, it wasn’t without it’s bad days. When you are excluded like this, the situation must be extremely serious
