Cut Emissions 70% by 2035? There’s Only One Policy That Can Get Us There / The author argues that the only way Australia can meet its climate targets is to bring back the carbon tax. IMHO, he’s on the right track, but the carbon tax must be global, not national, for the world to meet its targets

Has anyone lost nearly all their hope? These headlines just overflow with loose promises. I just graduated from an Environment and Sustainability degree, left most of my lectures feeling extremely interested and studious but with an overarching, often overwhelming, feeling of sadness.
I get most excited by reading articles/headlines in relation to smaller scale ecological efforts that restore the local ecosystem.
Let me know if anyone has more hope than me, the least we can do is love our neighbour and love nature for what it is.
Realistically we need to tax or ban fossil fuels, animal agriculture, plastics, fishing trawlers, pesticides and PFAs.
Carbon tax won’t work, you have to mandate emissions reductions – ETS and cap and trade with increasing stringency has been shown to be effective. Who do you think will pay for a carbon tax? Even with a tax and dividend system the government will pay the money to its sweethearts. Can you imagine paying a tax to have it, say, support tax breaks on oil companies (worst case)
