  1. Seems like Disney ran out of legal options to keep postponing the end of its copyright, and turned to just straight up saying “nuh uh you can’t use that cause I said so”.

  2. Things are going to get real interesting when we get the early versions of Superman and Batman.

And remember, everyone. The early versions. No flight, no laser eyes. No clown or Boy Wonder.

  3. Corporations own the US so I’m sure they can do whatever they want

  4. Anyone thinking Disney is in the wrong here for literally *not doing anything* hasn’t read what happened and doesn’t know the scum of the earth that is Morgan & Morgan. Disney can be shitty; M&M are downright evil

  5. Steamboat Willy goes into the public domain, and then Disney represents the BAD guy

  6. Corporations own the government so nothing will happen

  7. Taking the google aproach of ignoring copyright and fair use laws see

  8. I’m a trademark attorney. Trademarks last forever so long as they are used in commerce and enforced. There’s a difference between copyright and trademark.

  9. Didn’t Disney start using Steamboat Willie in one of their trademarks? This would protect it indefinitely.

  10. Disney has been so unwarrantedly aggressive about copyright for so long it would be a public service to tell them to fuck off.

  11. Holy shit we’re going to get an “official” movie titled “Jonkler” that rules so hard

  12. I absolutely loathe Disney for pushing public domain work so far into the past. Our culture has suffered for it.

  13. That’s the old joke where they say Disney is a law firm with an entertainment division.
