Princess Kate may have only been a member of the Royal Family since 2011 when she married Prince William, but she has made a massive impact every day since. As one of the most popular members of the Royal Family, The Princess of Wales, 43, receives a lot of public and media attention, whether that be for her charity work, her humble ways or her great fashion choices.

However, while we see one side of Princess Kate when the cameras are rolling, not many of us get to see what Prince William’s wife is really like when not on the royal stage. Apart from her friends and family, Kate’s private life is rarely shown. While this may be the case, one royal commentator who has spent a lot of time with the future Queen has seen exactly what Kate can be like when the cameras are put away.

Sharing her insight with The Mirror, royal commentator Katie Nicholl said that the princess tended to have one noticeable change about her when out of the direct spotlight, and this is her affection with her husband.

While they have shown more public affection for one another over the last few years than ever before, this has not always been the case.

Instead, they usually save this for times when it is just the two of them, or when the cameras stop rolling.

Ms Nicholl said: “I’ve been with them on many occasions, and when the cameras drop, you’ll often see them walk away and Kate will put an arm around his waist, or he’ll place his hand in the small of her back.”

The royal expert, who wrote the biography Kate: The Future Queen, continued: “There’s a lovely closeness between them, and whereas at the start of their marriage they seemed shy about being affectionate in public, they’re so much more confident now.”

While they don’t show the same PDA levels as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are rarely seen not hand-in-hand – even since quitting royal life in 2020 – both William and Kate do often share sweet fleeting moments of affection together in public, whether that be hand holding or holding each other’s waist.

Last year, to mark the end of Kate’s chemotherapy, a video was shared of the couple and their three children enjoying the summer holidays together in Norfolk.

In this video, William and Kate did not shy away from PDA and instead were seen exchanging kisses and hugs – something that was seen as a big first for the royal couple who are believed to be as in love as ever before.
