  16. Isn’t there some kind of law against personally profiting from government office? I have a friend who worked a low level, local government job and he wasn’t even allowed to start his real estate business.

    He wasn’t aware he had to notify his employer of his side gig as a real estate agent. Anyway, they never would’ve known, but he wound up selling houses to a few people who worked in government along side him. Word got around, he got a reprimand and had to fill out a whole packet of paperwork about the infraction. The higher ups on the elected board were to make a determination if there was anything unethical happening, but it never got that far. He took an early retirement as he was making more selling houses anyway, and had recently started buying and renting out his own houses. I’m just saying, he wasn’t doing anything wrong, but was put to crazy scrutiny in local government. Our President profits from corruption hand over fist and we just let him do it. My friend couldn’t even be a real estate agent on the side. This country is so beyond broken.
