  30. These things happen because they are allowed to happen. We don’t have effective gun control. We don’t have mental health resources for vets or anyone, really. We let social media and message board platforms radicalize people with few consequences and no guardrails in place.

    There’s things we can do to lessen the chances of these events but we don’t do any of it. We don’t have to trample the Bill of Rights to do any of these things either because the Bill of Rights permits regulation and intervention on certain kinds of speech and the framework already exists for regulating weapons (why you can’t own bombs or machine guns or nuclear missiles).

    Right now, everyone is focusing on political affiliations and not the common pattern of these people which is online self-radicalization and access to guns that can kill lots of people quickly.

    Before I get a Nirvana Fallacy response, if this guy just drove into a church and set it on fire, it would be terrible, but there’s people that would still be alive right now. Let’s not worry about perfection, let’s work on improving the situation. Gun control can’t fix everything, but it can fix some things.

  31. How about anyone who commits any heinous crime is evil. And not pinning them as a democrat or republican. It is as simple as that.
