RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Department of Justice has accused the University of Nevada of providing assistance to illegal migrants in a new letter.
The Civil Rights Division of the DOJ sent a letter to UNR on Friday, saying they had received reports of efforts to assist illegal migrants enrolled at the University.
They say that, on its website, UNR’s UndocuPack office provides assistance to this group “with on-campus and community resource referrals, financial aid and academic support.
They further accuse the University of using resources to steer immigrants towards financial aid, scholarships, and career opportunities that do not require applicants to provide a Social Security Number.
The DOJ also accused UndocuPack director Janet Najera of stating that the University’s goal is to “grow the program and provide more support” for these migrants.
They say they are now referring the matter to the Department of Education, who will now investigate whether the school is using taxpayer funds to subsidize or promote illegal immigration.

The University released a statement to KOLO 8 News Now on the DOJ’s accusations, saying:
“Late Friday afternoon, the University received correspondence from the U.S. Department of Justice. We are currently reviewing the letter and will respond appropriately through the proper legal and administrative channels.
