WEST GLACIER, Mont. — A recent National Park Service report reveals that in 2024, Glacier National Park attracted 3.2 million visitors who spent an estimated $458 million in local gateway regions.
This influx of tourism supported 5,190 jobs, generated $217 million in labor income, and contributed $359 million in value added, resulting in a total economic output of $656 million for the surrounding areas.
The report, titled “2024 National Park Visitor Spending Effects,” highlights the significant impact of national park tourism on local, regional, and U.S. economies.
“The communities around Glacier are our partners in providing visitors with information that helps them enjoy the park safely and responsibly – so that we may all continue to experience the wonder of this wild and scenic landscape for generations to come. The park contributes back to Western Montana through visitor spending that supports jobs and creates revenue. We’re grateful to work with community partners on a sustainable future for our parks and communities.” said Glacier National Park Superintendent Dave Roemer.
In 2024, 332 million visitors to national parks spent $29 billion in gateway communities within 60 miles of a park. This spending supported 340,000 jobs and provided $18.8 billion in labor income, contributing a $56.3 billion benefit to the U.S. economy.
The lodging sector experienced the highest direct economic benefits from national park tourism, with $11.1 billion contributed nationally. The restaurant sector followed, receiving $5.7 billion in contributions from park visitors.
