Will the Brun Undredal cheese go bad without refrigeration?
30.09.2025
Hi Norwegian Folks,
I am planning to take Brown Cheese from Undredal to my home country India.
Just wanted to know will it go bad if left un-refrigerated for 24-48hrs during transit?
It would be fine. Its mostly plastic so very stable!
It says store in a cold place. Meaning in a fridge.
I usually use small ice packs to keep it cool when I’m traveling abroad. So far so good.
It will probably be fine. Most of the time it will be hanging around cargo bays in airplanes, and those are cold.
If it gets really warm for many hours, you may see some small changes in the look of the cheese since fats could start leaking out. But in general, if you get it back into cold storage as soon as you’re home, you’ll be good.
It is not really cheese, but caramellized whey. The sugars and low water content will most likely keep it ok.
After all – I leave this one in my fridge for two months and if there is mold on one end I cut it off and continue eating it. So 48 hours to india should be well within possibilities.
My mother sent me this in the mail to Thailand. That’s two weeks in different temperatures. Nothing wrong with it. Straight in the fridge for a day, then eat it.
It does say “store cool”. So if possible I would keep it in the fridge. But for a plane ride it would probably be ok in room temp. But I’d put an extra plastic bag around it in case it starts sweating.
This type of cheese is quite shelf stable, so it should be fine as long as they don’t leave your luggage standing in the sun anywhere along the way. Normal room temperature won’t hurt it over a couple of days.
It will be fine. But will get soft when at room temperature so if it’ll lose shape if it’s packed to tight in the suitcase.
Brown cheese has very little water so can stay long without going bad. But if it changes color or you see moist probably eat it fast 🙂
Nah, but it will most likely be checked by security. On x-ray it looks quite similar to explosives 😂
No big deal, just calculate in a wee bit more time.
I carried the same to india. It stays fine.
Ive taken brown cheese to the UK several times on a flight and it’s always fine
Cheese was actually made as a way to preserve milk so it wouldn’t go bad. Back in the days when we didn’t have refrigerators, people would store cheese in room temperature and even warmer temperatures for days, weeks if not month.
