  2. Because the US is doing it wrong, they need to build relations through long lasting infrastructure projects to connect the United States to Latin America that would boost trade and relations. The US needs to help Mexico against the Cartels and reduce crime and poverty across South America and Domestically, so that the two economies can grow together. I just don’t know how they accomplish all that. In the long run a strong North American economy trading with a strong South America (Latin America) is beneficial to all.

    It looks like what they are doing is just using Force and economic intimidation.

  5. Let’s look back at the history of direct and indirect interventions and support in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
    I believe that trust is already gone, divided between those who fear it and those who would like support because… For all the Bolsonaros of the situation.

    I would expect less magnanimous behavior towards the Latin Americans, and more forceful behavior

    We’ve gotten a little lose, time to crack some heads to reassert our position in the hemisphere

  8. Trump cares more about the bogeymen of immigration and drugs than he does about containing Russia and China’s expansionism halfway across the world, so his new focus on being the strongman of Latin America is actually related to MAGA’s domestic priorities.

    His base can really be led to believe that they’re “winning” as a result of trade wars, economic supplication and missile strikes in Latin American countries even if there’s no noticeable change in migration figures or the drug problem.

  9. Usa helped Brazil and now Brazil doesn’t want USA like first ally. This is the major problem in Latin America.
