Protected and conserved areas (PCAs) are not only impacted by climate change they are also part of the
solution. Most guidance on climate change and PCAs addresses the risks of climate change to PCAs and the
importance of adapting management in order to protect the biodiversity for which most PCAs have been
created. This technical note is designed to help managers recognize how management of PCAs can reduce
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by protecting the ability of an ecosystem to sequester carbon and store it
over the long-term.
