The space industry is welcoming yet another partnership, this time between Astroscale and HEO, aimed at advancing space monitoring. The announcement of the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two firms was made on 30 September 2025.

The New MOU Between Astroscale And HEO Will Help Monitor Activities In Space

The space industry is experiencing rapid growth, hence the need to monitor activities in space. Astroscale and HEO will develop tools that will help monitor activities in space, ensuring that core systems necessary for daily operations on Earth are running smoothly.

According to HEO Space, this partnership will “develop and deliver critical capabilities for monitoring, assessing and ultimately servicing allied defence, government and commercial assets.” This will help ensure that assets in space belonging to allied nations are secure, hence fostering a sustainable space ecosystem.

Most of the assets that the tools developed under this MOU will monitor are commercial and government satellites belonging to Japan, Australia, and their allied nations. The operation of these tools will extend from low-Earth orbit into geostationary and geostationary transfer orbits.

These operations will ensure the on-orbit servicing missions carried out by its clients are safe and efficient. Astroscale is a Japanese on-orbit servicing firm, and High Earth Orbit Robotics Pty Ltd or HEO Space, is an Australian space monitoring firm.

Driving A Sustainable Space Ecosystem

Speaking on this MOU, Mike Lindsay, CTO at Astroscale, says, “Through this partnership, we are strengthening the connection between monitoring and managing orbital risks, advancing essential SDA capabilities, and supporting mission success across all orbits.” Lindsay adds, “A sustainable space ecosystem requires coordinated data and action, and we’re proud to deepen our collaboration with HEO to help make it a reality.”

Hiranya Jayakody, Co-Founder & CTO of HEO, brings to light the fact that both firms have been working together for years. The purpose of this long-term partnership is to “identify how NEI capabilities can create a sustainable approach to solving difficult challenges in orbit.”

With this new partnership, both firms will bring their expertise on deck to ensure a sustainable space ecosystem for their clients. More details on the development of this partnership will become available in the coming months.
