Mildest=dark blue/100%, least mild=dark red/0%

If only one season is bad ex. Las Vegas, Cairo it will still perform fairly well since this takes into account the whole year.

Compared to my previous post on “temperate climate index” I removed wind from the score, made it score hot desert cities a bit lower and made it 0-100%

  1. Is Medellin “the city of perpetual spring” really comparable to places like Wellington,NZ (cold in winter) and Sydney (scorching hot in summer)? Idk how but the scoring method should be adjusted.

  2. Seems very tilted towards hot-summer mediterranean climates. No fucking way is any part of Morocco milder than, say, Ireland or New Zealand. And only one tropical highland (Sana’a) is definitely off the mark. And the negative ratings seem to be overly lenient towards dry extreme heat; not a single city in the bottom 15 in West Asia?

Also, I’m quite sure the source data is incorrect, because 80% humidity year-round in La Serena is certainly not what most people would call “not humid”.

  3. This is why Western Civilization has a massive climate and geography advantage over everyone else.

And this is also why Eastern Civilization got further ahead than Sub-Saharan Africa, Siberia, South Asia, etc.

  4. I can tell you from this Data its not accounting wind. Because Cape Town is not mild or pleasant during that season where as Durban is considered year round good weather.

  5. Calgary is much better than indicated. It should be showing similar to Denver.

  6. Tunis is not mild lmao. It’s the hottest country in Africa

  7. I’ve been to Los Angeles; it’s in a desert. It gets hot. It’s very sunny. It’s not mild at all, basically.

  8. So SE Asia, India, Persian Gulf, West Africa, and most of Russia are unpleasant places to exist. And will probably get worse due to climate change and the sheer number of people there that will be affected.

Buckle up folks because it’s gonna get even uglier in those places

  9. This depends so heavily on when this data was collected and what season it was in those countries

  10. I love how the map uses territories/states/rayons/regions and not countries. That’s extremely useful.

  11. Southern CA and Southern coastal Peru are mild due to dry air and cold water offshore. Quite comfortable to sleep at night on both, but the darkish blue color SE France and the area around Rome make me seriously question this map. The Santander area of Spain I get. It’s quite comfortable at night in the middle of Summer but Barcelona is hot and uncomfortable without AC,

  12. Guess its up to personal preference, but I personally would take a north European summer any day over a mediteranean one. Winters are less of an issue either way for me.

  13. What’s the selection criteria for cities? For example, how is Oxnard #4 but neighboring Ventura does not show up at all?

  14. Can confirm. My city is smack dab in one of those dark blue circles.

  15. In before the nitpickers

Can confirm Lisbon: probably most consistently pleasant weather in continental Europe.

Too bad the houses feel freezing in the winter 😀

  16. Shhhhh your not supposed to tell people in the west how nice Morocco really is!!!!

  17. I am from Budapest and a bit perplexed about Madrid. Is it because of winter, that Madrid is milder in winter? B/c summers are scorching hot for months…

  18. This map will upset all the redditors that are hyperfocused on how hot places are in July, while handwaiving any attention regarding how those same places are mild and nice from October to May while their preferred cities are effing frozen, cloudy, and depressing.

  19. Melbourne is far from mild. Averages mean nothing when 20C daily swings are not uncommon. It’ll be 26C on Sunday’s high and 7C Monday morning. It’s Spring.

  20. Despite depictions of Mexico all being desert and jungle, we have pretty mild climates.
