On the eve of Yom Kippur, the IDF deployed troops in the Netzarim corridor, which slices the Strip in two just south of Gaza City. That move somewhat tightens the closure imposed on Gaza City, which is the target of the current military operation. It also hinders the transfer of Hamas reinforcements northward (the IDF maintains that there are no more tunnels connecting Gaza City to the south).
