The grid can’t handle data centers, but the electrical utility still seizing land thru eminent domain to build transmission lines for them

  1. It’s amazing what a defeatest attitude we have towards data centers. Oh look here’s a big economic opportunity that most countries are working towards, but it might be inconvenient so let’s just give up and go home. I’m sure no other country will leap ahead of us on this.

    Here’s a thought, maybe invest in the grid, new generation, and DERs, it’s not rocket science.

  2. Funny how USA could not power a few million extra EVs every year over 20 years without apparently crashing the grid, but can suddenly power massive gigawatt data centres straight away.

  3. Well transmission is a big part of fixing the energy grid. This is a good move while the data center thing is still a shit show. 

  4. We need transmission lines. The existing lines might have been overloaded even before the data centers were a thing. We dunno. What we do know is society needs power lines. What we also know is they can keep right on farming underneath power lines. So their 68 years of farming can continue right on as they have for 68 years.

  5. Build solar, wind, and batteries. This isn’t rocket science.
