  15. While I hope for the best for our country and this turd just jumping off the face of the earth, what’s interesting about Trump “disappearing” after bursts of unhinged rhetoric is that this does have some historical parallels with how dictators consolidate power.

    Trial Balloons: Dictators often float extreme statements or policies just to see how the public, elites, and institutions react. Hitler did this constantly in the 1920s–30s, mixing wild claims with quieter periods where he recalibrated his message. Modern authoritarians like Putin and Erdoğan have used similar tactics, say something shocking, retreat, and watch who bends the knee versus who resists. Kind fits in with the military speech recently.

    Strategic Withdrawal: Stalin spent years deliberately fading into the background while rivals like Trotsky or Bukharin were in the spotlight. People assumed he was a gray bureaucrat, until he emerged as the central figure. Mao, later on, would sometimes step back after failures (like the Great Leap Forward) and reemerge with more radical energy (Cultural Revolution). The withdrawal itself becomes a tool to build tension and gauge loyalty.

    But then there is Trump’s Pattern. Trump thrives on the spotlight, so his sudden silences are weird. When a man who lives for cameras suddenly vanishes after a messy speech or bizarre rant, it’s either health issues (totally possible), or it’s a calculated pause. He might be waiting to see if his “crazy” rhetoric sticks with the base, if party elites defend him, or if the media blows up about it. That silence itself can become part of the performance.

    Trump’s vanishing acts don’t automatically mean he’s following a “dictator’s playbook,” but it does rhyme with history, and seems to fit better then failing health, though please just be failing health…..

  30. That silent treatment from the generals must have really hit him hard. Not only because – as a malignant narcissist – he lives on praise and attention, but also because they made it clear that he didn’t intimidate them and *would not be* his fascist goons. Consequently, his whole plan falls apart.
