Ukrainian fields now covered with fiber optic cables — Russia’s war against Ukraine kills people and nature alike

  1. Hopefully most of those can be spooled back up once the war is over. Some will inevitably snag and snap. Maybe some, or even most, of those can then be spooled from the opposite side.

  2. Never mind the drone cables, the leftover explosives in Unexploded Ordonnance (OXO) are really horrible for the nature, because its poisonous and accumulates in the eco system. Ukraine has some special Government groups trying to track OXO, so it can be removed later. Even grenades exploding, has bits of failed explosives laying around like 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene(TNT), Hexogen (RDX) and HMX (Octogen). Some detonators are based on PETN, mercury and lead fulminates, and tons of lead bullets are everywhere in trees and on/in the ground. Explosives are very toxic to produce, use or destroy controlled. Many Russian and particularly North Korean artillery grenades fail to detonate, and much ammunition depots is destroyed, so stockpiles is partially detonated, destroyed or just ripped open. So OXO are a physical explosive risk to people + a huge environmental threat. 3. I have a couple of questions.

First, could those same cables left between trees and in the fields obstruct the propellers of other drones, making their use counterproductive?

Then, could a system be started that rewinds the cable (from its operations center) once the drone explodes? This way, they can recover the fiber optic cable and, in the process, avoid damaging nature.
