Moldova’s pro-EU party wins pivotal election with more than 50% of vote • FRANCE 24 English

Well, for more, let’s cross to our correspondent, Maria Girth Nicholsu. Maria, the pro-Uropean or the pro-U party did win with a bigger margin than expected, but can we say it’s a sizable win for this party, the past, so the party for action and solidarity, the pro-European party of President Maya wins 55 out of the 101 seats in parliament. This is a clear absolute majority and this was what uh they were hoping for because if they hadn’t reached this absolute majority well then they would have had to try and form alliances with parties hostile to to their ideas. uh and there had been considerable worries that they wouldn’t reach these uh 50% uh because of the Russian propaganda because of Russian interference because also there is still some pro-Russian genuine sentiment in Muldova but this is a wide maj wide majority and a wide victory for for the pass both in the country where they come out on top in most of the regions as well as in the diaspora. The diaspora has reached record levels of voter turnout for parliamentary elections. About 270,000 Moldovvens voted abroad and they voted almost 80% for for the pro- European party. So it is being celebrated here as a major victory uh in in Muldova for the pro-Uropean camp. I spoke to people here in Kishina this morning who said that they had stayed awake until uh the middle of the night until 1:00 in the morning. uh in order to see if uh the pass would reach the absolute majority. They were afraid that uh pro-Russian parties may be able to form alliances. Okay. So, a a win for them. And yet, Maria, we’re hearing that there’s protest planned by the pro-Russian side. So, the leader of the patriotic block, which is a basically a um a block of three parties aligned with the pro-Russian propaganda, he said that he’s calling for a peaceful protest at noon in front of the parliament. It’s not very clear what he’s officially what his official stance is going to be. He indicated that if there would be a fraud detected in favor of the pro- European party, then he might not even recognize the result. But with such a a huge difference of votes between the patriotic block and the pass, it will be very difficult for him to justify any contestation of results. He is saying though that pass is a threat for Muldoven democracy and that they have tried to falsify some part of the vote but his official stance remains unclear so far. Okay, Maria Gorescu, thanks so much for joining us and bringing us that update.

Moldova’s ruling PAS party pulled comfortably ahead of its Russian-leaning rivals in a high-stakes parliamentary election as final results trickled in on Monday, leaving the EU candidate country that borders Ukraine on a path towards European integration. The tense vote was marked by a string of incidents and overshadowed by accusations of Russian interference. France24 correspondent Maria Gerth-Niculescu reports the latest from Chisinau, Moldova.

  1. The real story–pro-EU Parties BAN opposition parties in order to "win" the election.

Von der Leyen and the democracy-hating EU are joyous.

  2. 52% to 48% opposing her, is only a very thin majority and clearly would have been lost if opposition parties had not been banned and voters voting for the opposition abroad had not been stopped from voting. The reality of fraud being used to get this result cannot be hidden. It is one thing to persuade someone to vote through misinformation or paying them as they still vote and it's their decision, but its another to make up fake votes and ban people from voting. Peace and love

  3. Moldovans chose better lives for their children and grandchildren.
Russia's economy is only some $2 trillion in size. That's smaller than Italy's and a bit bigger than Spain's. For comparison, the EU has a $19-trillion economy. America's is at some $29 trillion. Ukrainians, Moldovans, and Hungarians are better off having a future in the free and prosperous West than with poor, tyrannical Russia.

Oh, and NATO is not expanding eastwards. Eastern European countries have been rushing westwards into NATO and into the EU. That is the truth!

  4. All opossesion where banned, end to memocraty in moldova. Now more and more EU contrues have Iranian democraty. Som sellekt the aloved candidates, the population can choose from

  5. Why do I not trust news reports that don't lead off with Moldovan Pro-EU party wins despite controversy over disqualification of the major opposition parties??? Because disqualification has become the MO in Europe!!
