The Netherlands have announced their squad for the first edition of the ICC Emerging Nations Trophy, set to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 18 November to 1 December 2025.
The tournament marks a new chapter in women’s international cricket, featuring eight emerging nations competing in a T20I format. The annual event, scheduled to run from 2025 to 2028, aims to provide greater competitive exposure and development opportunities for Associate Member teams on the global stage.
Netherlands Name Squad for Inaugural ICC Emerging Nations Trophy, Sterre Kalis Returns
In its inaugural edition, the ICC Emerging Nations Trophy will bring together the five Associate Members with women’s ODI status – Netherlands, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, alongside the next three highest-ranked sides, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Coach Neil MacRae, confident in continuity and momentum, announced the squad, he emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency and building on recent performances.
“We have selected a squad which shows continuity from the squad which performed well at the ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in the Netherlands in August. Sterre Kalis will boost the squad by returning in November after having missed the Europe Qualifier in August when playing in The Hundred.”
MacRae highlighted that the Emerging Nations Trophy offers a valuable platform for the team to further refine their brand of cricket. “The ICC Emerging Nations Trophy tournament in Thailand in November will be a good opportunity to continue to develop the attacking style of cricket which the team has produced over the past year.”
The tournament in Thailand will be an important step in preparing for greater challenges ahead. It will serve as crucial groundwork for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in January, in Nepal, the final stage before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in June 2026.
The ICC Emerging Nations Trophy represents the ICC’s continued push to strengthen the women’s game among Associate Members by offering consistent international competition and development opportunities. For the Netherlands, the tournament will not only serve as a confidence-building platform but also a vital chance to test their depth ahead of the T20 World Cup Qualifier early next year.
With the return of experienced batter Sterre Kalis and the continuation of a core squad that impressed in the Europe Qualifier, the Netherlands will aim to make a strong statement in Bangkok, setting the tone for a defining season in their journey toward the global stage.
