SEATTLE — Full time jobs are becoming more difficult to find in the second half of 2025. Research done by Robert Half shows that 67% of companies are relying on contract and project-based hiring through the end of this year, at least.

With market uncertainty, hiring for full-time positions is constrained at many companies, a technology jobs expert at Robert Half, Megan Slabinski, said.

“And employers still have a need to keep the business going and keep momentum going throughout the end of the year to meet year end goals, project deadlines and try and avoid burnout,” Slabinski said.

That’s why, many of those companies are turning to contracted work, Slabinski said that work stretches across departments like finance, legal and customer support.

Her advice to job searchers? Don’t say no to those opportunities right away.

“I think it’s important to not minimize the opportunity that comes with a contract hiring opportunity,” she said. “It’s a way to often times expand your network, gain new skills and projects, ramp up quickly, and often they lead to full time hiring within an organization.”

Oftentimes, those contracted positions turn into full-time jobs, according to Slabinski.

“It’s a great way to prove the need for adding full-time staff,” she said. “When you can bring in a contract employee and show increased productivity, better results, the ROI, it really can help emphasize the need to later in that full time talent for employers.”

Other advice from Slabinski is to use your network to go beyond searching for jobs online.
