At first glance scrolling I thought this was Shmi Skywalker from The Phantom Menace
She is, but to be fair, this is a mistake tons of people make. Hang out on a canning forum and it won’t be long before you find someone going “Wait, the rubber bits grip the can? I’ve been doing this wrong my whole life!” and a bunch more people chiming in with “TIL…”
It really is safer to use them the right way though. The grip from the rubber is important.

You can literally see the top of the jaw she’s pulling out. It is resting between two thick black pads that are protecting the jaw from the metal.
The green rubber is probably to prevent heat transfer from the water to the tongs.
I can my own jam and pickles.
While you can still pick up jars when the jar lifter is upside down, the jars are much more likely to slip (ask me how I know, I’m sure most people make this mistake when starting out). The worst part is when you can get splashed with boiling water after the jar drops in. 😬

I keep going back to the Emily Chang interview who alludes to Meghan’s claim that she was silenced and Meghan demurs when asked if she has anything to say now. It strikes me as disingenuous when she still brings up the soap story – as she did not too long ago and Brooke Shields cut her off.
