  3. It’s been reported that there is potent misogyny in the grassroots level of Reform. For the most part, it’s kept behind closed doors although it will be interesting to see how it plays out in 2026. It’s easier show your true colours without the spotlight of frontline politics on you. Saying that, being a bigot and misogynist seems to be acceptable character trait for republicans across the pond. Maybe MEGAs and MWGAs will be the same here

  4. The underlying problem with Welsh politics is that there is a gigantic hole where a non-Thatcherite, socially conservative, localist party should be.

    The Tories can’t be it because, well, they are the Tories, and their commitment to Thatcherism will always override their commitment to Wales.

    Reform are trying to be it, but they are still primarily a party of English Thatcherites cosplaying as a localist party rather than actually being one.

    This leaves a very large percentage of the Welsh public whose choice is, effectively, to either disenfranchise themselves by not voting, vote for Reform, or vote for the least bad progressive party.

    I can understand why, if after 25 years of devolution, you still don’t have a legitimate, authentic party to vote for, you might reach the conclusion that it has been a failure.

A fundamental problem is lack of understanding that Reform voters don’t care about policies, don’t care about political sleaze, don’t care about reputation, don’t care about rights, don’t care about dignity. Reform voters are fixated on distorted view of migration. They will gladly vote for a blatantly corrupt person who promises to bring down migration. Reform voters will gladly vote away their own human and workers rights if it means a few extra people are deported.

    These exposes revealing the horrors of the Reform UK political machine fail to understand this simple fact. Reform voters are completely unplugged from political reality so these exposes mean absolutely nothing.

  10. Politics in Wales is a really bleak place atm.

    Despite being a former member of the party, I genuinely think Wales would benefit from not having the sluggish, parochial, incompetent, ‘old guard’ Welsh Labour in power but there really isn’t much viable choice.

    Of the main parties

    Welsh Cons – are a complete joke, even by Truss standards. Almost a parody of a party

    Greens – huge practical problems with fiscal policies, anti Nuclear, can’t decide whether they’re the Garza party, the LGBT party or the NIMBY party.

    Labour – see above. Ideology, incompetence and arrogance.

    Plaid – have lost a lot of their identity. Rife with infighting

    Lib Dem’s – even *they* don’t think they’ve been relevant since 2010

    Reform – I mean, holy shit.

    Like the political landscape in Wales is fucking awful, absolutely zero innovation or new ideas, just jobbers who aren’t good enough to get selections for the UK parliament and that’s saying something.

    So I ‘get’ the appeal of Reform inasmuch as being ‘new’ and like anything Farage led, seemingly somewhat dynamic. But it’s genuinely terrifying considering it’s racist nationalism with the veneer of “patriotism” – along with being obviously a complete scam.
