Venezuela’s Maduro ready to declare state of emergency over US ‘aggression’ • FRANCE 24 English

A drastic measure from Venezuela’s president as tensions between Washington and Caracus continue to escalate. Nicholas Maduro signed a decree granting him additional security power should the US military enter his country. We have begun the process to consider a constitutional decree declaring a state of emergency due to an external threat in line with the constitution to protect our people, our peace, and our stability. The decree would have wide reaching effects if Venezuela were to be attacked militarily by the United States. The latest move from Maduro comes weeks after the United States dispatched warships and a submarine to the Caribbean. Washington has struck boats in international waters and killed over a dozen alleged traffickers, the legality of which has been questioned by experts. The latest development comes as US media report military officials in the United States are drawing up plans to strike alleged drug targets within Venezuela. What the United States government, the wararmonger Marco Rubio is doing against Venezuela is a threat prohibited by the United Nations charter. If they were to dare to attack our homeland, the external commotion decree gives the head of state special powers to act on defense and security to defend Venezuela. While the Venezuelan army has been training members of the public in the event of a US incursion, behind the scenes, Maduro has tried to calm tensions. Earlier this month, he wrote a letter to Donald Trump offering to engage in direct talks to secure a relationship with the United States that was both historic and peaceful.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Monday he is ready to declare a state of emergency over the threat of US “aggression,” following a spate of deadly US strikes on suspected Venezuelan drug boats. US President Donald Trump has deployed eight warships and a nuclear-powered submarine to the southern Caribbean as part of a stated plan to combat drug trafficking, but which appears particularly aimed at pressuring Maduro. 1. This guy is panicking sweating bullets lol all US did was move assets south no one said anything about targeting him specifically

  2. Surely they could search the boats first and find evidence – why just randomly bomb boats at sea? Sure some may be smugglers, but some are just fishermen.

  3. He's done for. The real question is, why are the people not throwing him to the Americans before the citizens get themselves bombed. Are they going to put their families on the line for a drug and cartel leader?

  4. So the Maduro regime is threatening to invade Guyana Esequibo and annex it from Guyana while telling everyone it is fair game. Yet wants to play victim when the US military comes up to the naval border of Venezuela. The US is not going to invade Venezuela, it is too costly and that is not the intention. Also the US has always been one of the major importers of Venezuelan crude for decades, even up till recently.

  5. They are about to Find out. FAFO. United States will eliminate Venezuela in 48 hours. In fact, US should take over the entire Americas. We have a strong military and it’s ours to take.

  6. Instead of reporting news on Foreign Affairs, France should be worrying about illegal migrants crossing over from their Shores to England. Doesn't England pay France to stop this?

  7. Send 3 bunker buster bomba
One to where madura is hiding
One to his number two in the soles, thegeneral
    And another
To there intelligence security chefs hideoit as well
Then dismantle there communications, airports and military bases
    All at once
Within 1 minute hitting all simultenously

  8. The best alternative for Maduro is to walk away, seek political asylum somewhere, depart immediately and leaver whilst the going is feasable for you and your family.
Give the 8 million Venezuelans living as refugees abroad to go back to their ancestral home in order to secure a fruitful life.

  9. Pobre diablo.
