In a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly alongside several other government officials, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed the need to accelerate the completion of additional electricity supply systems for the “New Delta” project, which aims to reclaim around 2.2 million acres of desert land west of the Nile Delta, establish new sustainable communities, and strengthen food security.
He emphasized that securing electricity for the agricultural sector as a whole is vital to protect Egypt’s strategic crops amid regional and international challenges. El-Sisi also underlined the importance of regularly updating the national energy security plan.
Also present during the meeting was Mahmoud Essmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy; Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and Bahaa El-Ghannam, Executive Director of the “Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development” concerned with land reclamation projects in the desert. They reviewed the coordination between the Ministries of Electricity and Petroleum and the Future of Egypt Authority. The discussion covered the topics of securing electricity to agricultural reclamation zones, plans to construct new transformer stations, and extending power lines to support food production and irrigation infrastructure.
The President also reviewed the progress of both the National Energy Strategy and the National Renewable Energy Strategy through 2040. He was also briefed on the status of clean energy projects aimed at expanding renewable sources within the national energy mix and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
El-Sisi stressed the importance of securing uninterrupted petroleum supplies for power generation, raising the share of renewable energy, and intensifying efforts to attract investment in the energy sector.
In Addition, the President called for expediting renewable energy projects and advancing the localization of industries linked to this vital sector, in order to diversify sources of supply and reinforce Egypt’s long-term energy security.
