A district court should block federal agencies from imposing new fees on asylum applicants with pending claims, according to a new lawsuit from an immigrant advocacy group.

The complaint stems from a Republican-passed tax break and spending bill signed by President Donald Trump in July that created a $100 asylum fee as well as a $100 fee for each year a claim is pending. The law also added steep fees for work permit applications and renewals of employment authorization.
