Stefan Campbell has retired from Armagh duty

One of Armagh’s all-conquering All Ireland heroes from 2024 has retired from inter-county football.

Stefan Campbell, the Orchard county’s attacking ace, has informed management he no longer wishes to be considered for selection going forward.

The 34 year-old Clan na Gael clubman, who joined the Armagh panel in 2011 but had to wait two years before making his Championship debut, was considered a key player for Kieran McGeeney’s side – especially coming off the bench.

This was evident in the 2024 All Ireland final, when after coming on, he set up Aaron McKay for the game’s only goal.

Campbell’s final appearance for his beloved Armagh came in their All-Ireland round robin defeat against Galway earlier this year.

He came off the bench and registered a point as McGeeney’s side lost 2-22 to 0-27 in a classic encounter at Breffni Park.

Campbell is now likely to concentrate on playing soccer, having registered again to play for Mid-Ulster Football League side Lurgan Celtic.
