October the 7th, 2025 – Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević has recently given an interview for the BBC in London.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević recently gave an interview to BBC radio and stressed that he was proud that Zagreb was chosen to be part of the first generation of the innovative Bloomberg Philanthropies initiative for the leadership of European cities. That initiative includes 30 mayors from 17 countries.
Tomašević spoke about the importance of cities as drivers of innovation and transformation necessary to improve the lives of their residents. He referred to the city’s activities in improving public transport and air quality, reducing energy poverty and inequality, all in the context of the green transition and social justice. He also highlighted the great recognition that Zagreb received last year when the European Commission declared it the European Capital of Inclusion and Diversity.
The initiative for the leadership of European cities under the auspices of Bloomberg and LSE will provide the City of Zagreb with access to all kinds of strategies, skills and knowledge networks to achieve its goals. During the nine-month intensive theoretical and practical process, the City of Zagreb will be provided with evidence-based strategies used by world-class universities, researchers and political leaders on how to drive efficiency, work across sectors, mobilise collaboration, and find solutions that will deliver tangible results for people.
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević previously said of his BBC interview in London: “I’m extremely pleased to be in London together with 29 other mayors because Zagreb finds itself in the prestigious company of selected European cities such as Madrid, Oslo and Helsinki. All of these cities will work together to find solutions to key urban challenges. Among these are certainly challenges related to climate change, and Zagreb will focus on finding innovative solutions that improve air quality and reduce energy poverty and inequalities as part of the wider programme.”
