HOOVER – The Spain Park Jaguars honored one of their most impactful senior classes by doing one of the things that they did best in the past four years–win.

Spain Park beat a fellow area champion in the Chilton County Tigers by a 3-0 score line on Monday, Oct. 6 at Jag Arena.

Before the varsity match, the Jags celebrated the final regular-season home match for their four seniors–Cailyn Kyes, Bea Wiggins, Ja’Niyah Mosley and Mary Payton Dees. All of those four players left their mark on the sweep.

Kyes finished the night with 23 assists, seven digs, three setter kills and two aces while Wiggins and Mosley each earned nine kills to get on the cusp of double figures. Wiggins also added three aces while Mosley had three total blocks, including two solo blocks. Dees led the team in aces with four on the night as well as six digs.

In addition to the seniors’ totals, freshman libero Camdyn Kyes earned three aces and eight digs, Madden Scott had three aces and Peyton Harrington secured four kills and a team-high nine digs.

The Class 6A, Area 5 champion Chilton County kept the match close in the opening set and was within striking distance down the stretch. However, Spain Park finished the job to grab the momentum in the first set.

The Jags went on to win the first set by a score of 25-19, and the dominance only increased from there.

Spain Park turned on the pressure in the second set and quickly grabbed a double-digit lead that became only greater as the set went on. The Jags eventually tripled the Tigers’ point total ahead of a 25-7 win in the second set.

The victory set the stage for Spain Park to finish the sweep in the third set.

While not quite as commanding as their second-set win, the Jags still were in firm control of the third set and earned another double-digit win to end the match.

Spain Park’s 25-14 win in the third set finished off the 3-0 sweep and gave the Jags seniors a senior night victory.

Spain Park is now 27-5 overall following the win over Chilton County. The Jags will play their final five-set regular season match on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in a long road trip to Madison to face the Bob Jones Patriots.

Then, it’s all the way down south on Oct. 10 and 11 for ShrimpFest in Gulf Shores, the Jags’ final tournament of the season.
