2. This could help helicopter crews increase their range and avoid firing machine guns at close proximity, but that’s about it.

   Its maximum range is 10k feet. The Geran 2 already reaches 13k feet, which means that the ground launched version cannot hit it. Neither can any gun based platform that is already deployed or could be deployed. This is why so much attention and money is going to interceptors like the Sting. There is simply no other viable solution right now.
