Signs of a very sick economy can’t be hidden and will become ever more apparent to the average Russian in the not too distant future.
Putin’s smoke and mirrors tricks have a limited lifespan. It’s just the extent of the Russian people’s psychological conditioning over the last several decades that will determine the outcome. Whether it’s better or worse than this Putin regime, Stalin or the Soviet Union only time will tell.
Before they invade Ukraine, Russia had everything going for them, now they have sod all, verge of being bankrupt.
Keep at them Ukraine.
So right at the point all the serious economists said it would come, clear proof Russia is running of money
When the national fuel crisis that is fast approaching collides with having no money left to do anything about it sometime over the winter its going to get ugly in Russia fast. Basic logistics will fail, arms manufacturing will fail, moving troops will fail, getting to work will fail, heating will fail, exports will fail, supermarkets will fail. At the same time import costs will massively go up when they have to go cap in hand to the outside world even for stuff like petrol.
Many of these things I listed are already reporting sustained massive losses. Russia can’t solve most of these problems even by nationalising the companies, its soon going to be beyond that being any use. Russia has no resilience left for a problem on this scale, no options to fight it. They burnt all of it in a pointless war they are going spend decades regretting.
If Putin were sane, he would have ended his failed already. But he’s not sane. He’s an egotistical lunatic who doesn’t give a crap about his own people.
Signs that the current strategy of going after their oil and gas is working perfectly.
Where will the money be applied instead…
I wonder if at any point they start to wonder if invading Ukraine was actually worth it?
Do not underestimate the deprivations Russia’s leaders will impose and how much the Russian people will endure. It is limitless.
Russia is not a democracy wherein an unhappy population can boot out the current administration in the next election. That doesn’t happen in Russia. Unhappy people will be sent to the front and the supply will be endless.
Russia is always ready for wars of attrition and this is no different. They may run out of money someday but they will never stop building soldiers and weapons and they will never accept a loss – that’s why they have their nukes.
The only way this war will end is by the hands of Putin’s successor. That gives the Russians a face saving out. How that successor gets there is anybody’s guess.
