King Charles’ illness has made him reconsider many things, and that seems to include his relationship with his younger son, Prince Harry. This is a pretty normal thing; being faced with mortality makes us think about the things we want to change before we’re gone. But that decision might be causing a different rift within the British royal family.

According to the Examiner, “The king knows history can’t be rewritten — Harry and Meghan left the royal family and he wrote Spare. But he wants to mend his relationship with his son before he dies.”

But that’s causing problems with the rest of his family. “By welcoming his second-born back into the fold, though, he’s chasing away his wife, who doesn’t seem to be as willing to forgive her stepson for all he’s said about her and her husband, and the heir to the throne.”

There are reports that Prince William also wants nothing to do with Harry, and that a reconciliation there might be more complicated.

All of this comes amid reports from RadarOnline.com that the King and Queen’s marriage is anything but good. In fact, recent reports talked about how Camilla was “irritating him beyond belief” amid reports that she requested a library be added to Buckingham Palace as part of its $499 million renovation. The place contains 775 rooms but has not had a library since King George IV donated the King’s Library to the British Museum in the early 19th century.

The source added, “She’s made it clear to Charles that this is her single, most important request. But he finds it frustrating. The size and expense of the renovation are already weighing heavily on him, and her demand for an additional room drives him to distraction.”

And that’s not the only recent report about the marriage having issues. A source told Radar Online in September that the couple are “divorced in everything but name” and the two lead “largely separate lives” to “keep up with appearances.” “They are putting on a united front in public, especially because Charles is ill, but behind the scenes it’s a very different picture,” the source explained.

Does that mean the two will get a divorce? Unlikely, the source said. “They remain committed in their own way, but it’s not the kind of marriage most people would recognize,” adding, “Charles is absorbed in his health and responsibilities, while Camilla prioritizes her time at Ray Mill. At this point, it’s the crown that binds them – not the relationship itself.”

Considering recent reports from the outlet that King Charles was “dying,” all of this makes sense, though Queen Camilla is still being heavily criticized for things like not accompanying King Charles to his vacation residence in Balmoral Castle for his annual summer vacation. What did she do instead? Well, Camilla took a solo vacation aboard the $40 million superyacht Zenobia in the Mediterranean off the coast of Greece.

“Who knows how much time Charles has left, and she takes a high-profile vacation without him? Queen Elizabeth – who never particularly cared for Camilla – must be rolling over in her grave,” Radar Online’s source said.

She’s staying away; he’s more interested in reconciling with his son. Doesn’t bode well.
