Police have advised road users in Belfast to expect disruption on Monday as a World Cup qualifier match is set to take place between Northern Ireland and Germany at Windsor Park.

The match is due to kick-off at 7.45pm and police have advised that “traffic congestion is likely in the area” due to the expected volume of people attending.

Windsor Park, which is located on Donegall Avenue, holds around 18,500 people and gates open from 6.15pm.

Traffic is expected to be busy in the area both before and after the match.

“There will be the potential for traffic delays in south Belfast this evening, Monday, October 13, due to a football match,” a police spokesperson said.

“The UEFA World Cup Qualifier between Northern Ireland and Germany is due to take place at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

“Supporters are advised to leave sufficient travel time for their journey, both before and after the match, and traffic congestion is likely in the area due to the expected volume of people attending the fixture.”

They added that those parking in the area should do so with “consideration for local residents and businesses in the wider Donegall Avenue area”.

“Please be respectful and considerate whilst walking through residential streets convenient to the stadium,” they said.

“The areas around the National Stadium are ‘No Street Drinking’ zones under Belfast City Council by-laws.”
