On Sunday, October 12, another matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers took place, bringing fans plenty of goals and surprising results. The Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, and the Faroe Islands all secured important victories on their road to the World Cup.

Group G: Netherlands crush Finland

The Netherlands easily defeated Finland 4–0 in Amsterdam. Donyell Malen opened the scoring in the 8th minute, followed by Virgil van Dijk doubling the lead from a set piece. Memphis Depay converted a penalty before halftime, and Cody Gakpo sealed the win with a powerful strike. The “Oranje” comfortably top their group.

Group G: Poland grab vital three points

In Vilnius, Poland earned a solid 2–0 win over Lithuania. Sebastian Szymański scored directly from a corner, and Robert Lewandowski added the second goal to secure victory.

Group C: Denmark and Scotland maintain momentum

Denmark continued their march toward first place, beating Greece 3–1. Rasmus Højlund took advantage of a defensive mistake before Andersen and Damsgaard extended the lead. Christos Tzolis scored for Greece, but it didn’t change the outcome.

Scotland battled past Belarus 2–1 thanks to goals from Che Adams and Scott McTominay, while a late strike from Khleb Kuchko wasn’t enough for the visitors.

Group L: Sensation in Tórshavn

The biggest surprise of the evening came from the Faroe Islands, who defeated the Czech Republic 2–1. Martin Agnarsson scored the decisive goal in the 81st minute. It was the islanders’ third consecutive win, complicating the Czech Republic’s qualification hopes. Croatia remain top after a confident 3–0 victory over Gibraltar.

Group H: Romania stop Austria

In Bucharest, Romania snatched a 1–0 win over Austria thanks to a late goal from Virgil Ghiță. In the other group match, Cyprus easily beat San Marino 4–0.
