I posted this on another sub a few months ago, but my favorite saga was when the press in about 2010 entirely made up a story about Kate owning a dog she didn’t own, and that she dug through the imaginary dog’s poop for a specific pair of pearl earrings supposedly given to her by William because Otto the imaginary dog had eaten them. It was one of these stories that each press outlet added details to until it came out that Kate did not own a dog at all.
