In a rare display of bipartisan agreement, Florida Democrats have praised President Donald Trump and his administration in the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and the subsequent release of the remaining living hostages, taken by Hamas during the October 7 attacks.
Florida Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D), a supporter of Trump’s actions regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict, issued a statement applauding the President for his negotiations.
“A weight has been lifted off the world as the remaining hostages are released. Amazing day for the families and for [President Trump] and all the negotiators who made this day possible. Let’s honor their return by staying committed to lasting peace so another October 7 never happens again,” he shared on social media.
Another Florida Democrat, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, expressed relief and joy after meeting with the hostages and their families and making it a point to get to personally know them.
“As a Jewish mother and a Member of Congress representing a large Jewish community with many families impacted by the Hamas attack, my heart is full after two years of daily grief for so many and to see the living hostages finally returned. As someone who was in the region on October 7th and part of the first congressional delegation to travel to Israel 3 days later, I’ve met with their loved ones countless times and pledged never to give up on bringing them home.” Wasserman Schultz wrote on social media.
“This day of relief is a testament to the courage and persistence of the loved ones of those held captive, which kept the world from looking away. Now, we must ensure every survivor receives the care and support needed to heal. After learning more about the survivors from loved ones, especially their quaint quirks and passions, I’m eager to get to know them personally,” she added.
Former President Bill Clinton also lauded Trump, expressing gratitude to him and the other negotiators for bringing an end to the conflict.
“The horrors of the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, and the conflict they reignited, have resulted in unbearable human loss,” the former president wrote.
Sharing his gratitude for the ceasefire and that “the last 20 living hostages have been freed,” President Clinton expressed that “President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached.”
“Now Israel and Hamas, with the support of the United States, the region, and the world, must try to turn this fragile moment into lasting peace that provides for the dignity and security of both Palestinians and Israelis. I believe that they can get there, but only if they do it together,” he concluded.
