  1. It’s their shop, they should be able to do as they please. Like if people don’t like it, they’re free to not shop there. Why does this even have to be a thing.

  2. “remove them or apply for planning permission for them…”

    There’s a simple solution here, isn’t there?

  3. No hope for this country if local kids can no longer be bothered to draw cocks on things where necessary.

  4. “These advertisements do not fall within the parameters of deemed consent under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007 and were therefore unauthorised.” …….eh? Make it make sense?! A national flag is advertisement? These council’s will try anything.

  5. Great use of public resources having the council spend time on this 😂

  6. Buried at the bottom of the story. The actual truth. The media have a lot to answer for when they keep doing this.

A council spokesperson told the Metro: “Following a complaint received from a member of the public, we investigated and found that two advertisements were being displayed, consisting of adhesive vinyl applied externally to ground floor windows of a business premises.

‘These advertisements do not fall within the parameters of deemed consent under the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007 and were therefore unauthorised.’

‘In accordance with our Local Enforcement Plan, the proprietor was requested to remove the unauthorised advertisements or seek advertisement consent retrospectively for their continued display.”

  7. I know this is rage political bait but,

How is a small flag a Racial Slur?

  8. My wife grew up under authoritarian communist rule and she tells me that this country is becoming so similar to the authoritarian regime she grew up in. Her mum says the next part will be the people getting a lot poorer, which is already starting to happen.

The government and press have gone way too far and their powers need to be curbed.

  9. It’s a bit click bait ish – basically someone takes a complaint, which made council aware that they had picture up on side of shop, which requires planning permission. So it doesn’t matter if it’s a flag or a picture of a donkey, needs planning permission.

So no issue with a flag going up.

But of course half the people here who like to paint roundabouts will be up in arms.

It’s like me spray painting the alphabet on the side of a church and getting arrested for vandalism and claiming that the woke church are stopping us using our English alphabet.

  10. Good on them for not removing it, there’s nothing offensive about our flags. The person who complained is just some lefty busy-body with nothing else better to do.

  11. I hope he challenges it, because I think the council have got this wrong. They are saying it is an “advertisement” but I am pretty sure it is exempt because it is a flag.

  12. I can’t even explain how fucking stupid it is that we as a country now fins OUR OWN FLAG offensive, but happily display flags from other countries. Jfc.

  13. So all they needed to do was apply for planning permission on an advertisement board

The length people will go to generate free advertising

  14. So the sandwich shop made the complaint themselves for the publicity right?

  15. >Sandwich shop owner refuses to remove Union Jack artwork

    Good, it’s their shop.

  16. People will complain about “flag shaggers” being obsessed with the flag, but then proscribe meaning to its use based on what a few people do, **and** go out of their way to have it taken down and then make up even more lame excuses e.g. “they look tacky”, “they are a safety risk and could fall down” (I live in Northern Ireland where there are probably more British flags hanging up than in actual Britain and this has never been a concern.)
