Just because the summer season has come to an end, it doesn’t mean that the fun and adventure have to stop. In fact, there are numerous destinations in the UK and across Europe that are ideal for autumnal breaks. You can bundle up in warm clothing, enjoy scenic walks, take in breathtaking views, and pause for a hot beverage or a glass of red wine. While UK log cabins are a popular choice for this time of year, they can be rather expensive.

Instead, why not consider a visit to this underappreciated city, which is approximately a three-hour flight from the UK? It’s been dubbed Europe’s “best kept secret”. Forbes has listed Sibiu in Romania as one of the top 10 most idyllic cities in Europe.

The medieval city, encircled by stunning forests filled with bright orange trees at this time of year, is excellent for exploring historical sites and serves as a fantastic base for venturing into the wider Transylvanian countryside.

Sibiu, known for hosting one of the best Christmas markets, boasts a vibrant food scene, distinctive architecture, and a thriving culture. Take a stroll around the cobbled streets and admire the beautiful old houses.
