ZAGREB, 18 Oct (Hina) – Croatian Josip Glasnović is the new world champion in trap shooting, completing his collection of gold medals from all major competitions and capping off a brilliant day for the Croatian team at the World Shotgun Championships in Athens.
Andres Garcia of Spain became a vice-champion in the trap event, while Indian trap shooter Zoravar Singh Sandhu grabbed the bronze.
The final was preceded in the morning session by the last qualifying round, in which Anton Glasnović equalled the world record with a perfect score of 125 targets, while his brother Josip finished second with 124 hits.
Their teammate Giovanni Cernogoraz also competed, finishing 18th with 119 hits.
With a total of 368 hits, Croatia won the team gold medal.
In the individual final, Croatia came close to securing two more medals. Anton Glasnović finished fourth, hitting 26 targets over seven series but missing nine.
“I’m very emotional. I trained and prepared hard for this championship. I only missed once in the qualifiers. I was ready. I’m so happy to finally have all the gold medals,” said Josip Glasnović after his outstanding performance in the final.
Josip Glasnović won the gold in the trap event at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and became the Eurpean chamion in Suhl, Germany in 2013.
Cernogoraz was the Olympic champion in this event in 2012 in London.
