‘What’s happening in Gaza is a sort of anarchy’, as complex issues remain for Israel-Hamas ceasefire

But the difficulties of the next steps are now coming to the four. Israel insists that Hamas disarms, something it rejects. There’s the question then of who will govern Gaza, a region reduced to ruin, where Palestinians are still struggling under the Israeli blockade as they return to sites of destroyed homes, and many search for their loved ones, potentially buried beneath that rubble. The bodies of 24 Israelis who have been taken by Hamas are also still in Gaza. Hamas said they need help recovering their remains. The delay in bringing the bodies out seen by some in Israel as a break in the truce deal. Our correspondent in Jerusalem, Nova Tarniposki tells us more. Among other things that have already appeared on the horizon, this definitely puts in question the deal because it was a fundamental part of phase one. Hamas was told in exchange for Israeli redeployment and specifically for the Israeli army leaving all uh population centers in Gaza that they would have to release all the hostages. And they did warn the Americans and the Qataris and Israel of course ahead of time that they didn’t know where all had been buried. But of the 28 bodies, the understanding is that they didn’t know where maybe four or five were buried. They might need help for that, but not that they would play games, so to speak, that they would return just four of the bodies. The families, the forum of the hostages families immediately yesterday when Hamas declared that they would only release four uh bodies without saying they couldn’t find the rest, just that that’s what they would do. Already demanded that Israel declare that this was a breach. Israel appears close to doing that, but at the moment I do know that there are intense negotiations underway to try and get this resolved as quickly as possible. Okay. Meanwhile, inside Gaza Log, there’s reports that Hamas is already moving to crack down on largely Israeli backed militia, if I’ve understood it, but on rival groups in general. What more can you tell us about that situation? Yeah. I mean, what’s happening in in Gaza is a sort of anarchy and Hamas remains the most powerful armed group and they’re taking retribution against those they claim are part of militias, but it really can be anybody. You know, Hamas is an armed terror group. It’s what it has always been and it’s its definition. So, in the past many years, we’ve seen Hamas execute people they accuse of being gay, people they accuse of misting uh students. And what we’re seeing now is yesterday and the day before it actually started and yesterday something of a rampage. Now, this has several also um other implications, not just a security catastrophe for Gazans who have to live now in this sort of lawless uh shootout Gaza, but also this reveals that the Israeli army left Gaza in a situation in which Hamas is still resurgent, is still armed, and is extremely dangerous to its own population. And it’s for Prime Minister Netanyahu a major complication when he um promised Israelis that Hamas would be destroyed, that Hamas would not pose any threat to Israel or to anyone else, that he would demolish the organizations. I’m returning to all these words that we heard as part of Prime Minister’s uh Netanyahu’s definitions of what a victory might look like. Certainly seeing Hamas on a rampage inside Gaza shooting and killing whoever they want is not a definition of victory. It could also threaten these accords of course and it could threaten Prime Minister Netanyahu politically.

Israel and Hamas took an initial step in a fragile Gaza ceasefire on Monday by exchanging hostages and prisoners, offering hope for a lasting peace. However, major issues like Hamas disarming, future governance of Gaza, and Palestinian statehood remain unresolved, as FRANCE 24’s Noga Tarnopolsky explains. To her, ‘what’s happening in Gaza is a sort of anarchy’ as humanitarian aid trickles in but the enclave remains closed.

  1. Noga not being an honest journalist. She knows the Israel has many armed collaborator militia groups doing Isreali bidding

  2. It’s really strange how so many european governments, members of the press, chattering classes etc, seem to think that Israel is the chief impediment to peace in the middle east.

  3. ONCE AGAIN, IT'S ISRAEL'S fault that HAMAS (he who liberals must not name) is exploiting Palestinians–as if it ever stopped. Make up your mind France24.

It took TWO YEARS, but now, the WAR between Israel and Gaza,…May, be finally, over! YES, for NOW, it is Over! Prisoners were returned; some alive, and some were not! This does not mean, you stop praying for Israel and Gaza. They still have agreements and hopefully, YOUR PRAYERS, can Resolve , what needs to be done…as for UKR and Russia, YOU need to Pray More—It seems, This War—will last for some time, and so—YOU need to Pray for Them…" Oct 14, 2025 ~ 🌹 👑 "Our Lady of ALL Nations"🌹
