I was driving north from Grantown on Spey last night and saw them. All the cars were stopping at laybys and getting out to have a look. At one point it seemed there were 3 sort of ‘curtains’ of the lights across the sky. My ipone took some amazing photos with bright greens and purply reds, although as you say with the eye all you could really see was the light, maybe with a green tinge in places.

What time was this?
I only caught a quick small green blob around 20:30 which vanished in an instant just after taking a pic, so stayed up ’til around 22:30 but 100% cloud cover meant zero chance…
Cool.
When you see the auroras just remind yourself it’s like the earth is a giant lithium battery and the aurora is it over charging. 😛
