The British Museum tries to raise money to buy Henry VIII gold pendant • FRANCE 24 English

A gold pendant fit for a king. The Chudo heart was found by a metal detectorrist in the English county Warikshire 6 years ago. It features tudtor roses and a pomegranate bush, the symbol of King Henry VIII’s first wife, Catherine of Aragon, etched across the necklace, the old French word for always. Now, the British Museum hopes to add the piece to its collection, launching a campaign to raise£3.5 million pounds to buy it. You have is a suite of three things. A chain of 75 links in the form of what’s called a curb chain, a handshaped clasp, and from that suspended a heart-shaped pendant. And it’s the only surviving complex piece of tudtor jewelry from the early reign of Henry VII. In fact, it’s the only surviving piece of tudtor jewelry from the reign of Henry VII at all. Mystery still surrounds the pendant. Who exactly was it made for and how did it end up buried in a field? Experts have been able to piece together some of its stories, but curators say beyond its beauty is a deeply human story. Catherine is often remembered as a result of the enulment of the marriage. But when Henry wasn’t there, she reigned on his behalf. and she was his confidant. And not only that, they were greatly in love. Museums in Britain can’t tell those stories because after the enelment objects were destroyed or put away, hidden, we can’t tell Catherine’s story as a queen or as a person or as a mother and the object allows us to do those things. Under British law, museums and galleries can buy archaeological discoveries provided they can raise the money. The museum has already received a donation of £500,000. Just 3 million to go.

Buried jewellery linked to Henry VIII is now at the heart of a modern-day treasure hunt. The British Museum is trying to raise millions of pounds to buy a rare necklace, known as the Tudor Heart, to add to its collection. The pendant was found by a metal detectorist in the English county Warwickshire six years ago, and belonged to the King’s first wife, Katherine of Aragon.

  1. really. how about you give back all your stolen goods and then sell whats yours to buy the new jewlery. also henry the 8th was a hideous human wed be better off forgetting. its not like we learned from his life. we still have em.

  2. This is absolutely beautiful and an important artefact . Hopefully King Charles the third can help to save this for everyone to be able to see at the British Museum .

  3. The problem is British museum is free to visit, Charging just a pound would be helpful given the millions of visitors the museum receives annually

  4. Perhaps if the British Museum sold its objects from other countries to those countries that have been trying to recover their historical heritage for decades, it would have the funds to buy more legitimately British historical heritage.

  5. Britain's top personal tax rate's 45% but The Museum must still beg the public to fund its purchases? Delightful. 💸🙄

  6. Imagine the money they could raise by selling the artifacts they stole (they would still have enough to fill multiple museums of stolen artifacts)

  7. So, the British government is spitting on its own citizens to favor illegals, but wants money money money for historical trinkets.

  8. Diabolical it has to raise money while the government wasted billions on PPE, government should pay up

  9. No!!! No one should give a penny to buy back this thing. They are filthy rich let them use their own money from the gems and jewelry the stole years ago.

  10. I'm surprised they are asking for money! I thought they have plenty of money to acquire this piece, can someone enlightened me as to why they need money?

  11. THere should be a law that says such items found are property of the state it's a national treasure shouldnt be allowed to be shipped out of the country !

  12. Meanwhile people are still sleeping in the streets. Same in Paris notradame get burned and people donate millions to rebuild. No one do anything about poverty.
