  2. FDR was a highly consequential president, for better or worse

  3. Also important to recognize that modern society is built on a variety of government-involved things. Modern electric gas water and sewage utilities, roads highways and airports, telecommunications and internet infrastructure (including satellites). And of course modern education and healthcare (much different than the equivalent in 1880).

    It’s only natural that government would grow over that time period. Probably similar in other countries
