U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed he averted a war between India and Pakistan by using the threat of steep trade tariffs. Referring to India’s Operation Sindoor, launched after the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Trump said tensions were dangerously high, with seven aircraft shot down. In a Fox News interview, he claimed he warned both nations of 200% tariffs if they continued hostilities, saying, “That could have been a nuclear war.” Trump credited his economic pressure tactics with stopping the conflict, adding he had “ended eight wars,” five through tariffs. India, however, has consistently denied any foreign intervention, maintaining that its military and diplomatic actions were independently decided.
